Newcastle United head coach Eddie Howe was delight to see the performance of midfielder Sandro Tonali, who scored twice in the win over Brentford.

Newcastle beat Brentford 3-1 at St James’ Park in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals on Wednesday, with Italy midfielder Tonali scoring the opening two goals as the Magpies booked their place in the semi-finals.

Howe said of Tonali, who has been out for 10 months due to a betting violation ban between October 2023 and August 2024: “He’s a big signing and you want to see big signings who do well and adapt quickly.

“He’s been here for a while but hasn’t played much. Nights like this strengthen the bond between him and the fans. I’m really please for him on a personal level.”

“It was good to see Sandro ทางเข้า ufabet score two goals. We are starting to see the best of him. The positional change has definitely helped him. He feels more comfortable playing in a deeper role.”

“He’s got all the qualities that we knew when we signed him, it’s just about finding the right balance for him and for the team,” Howe said.

Newcastle, runner-up to Manchester United in the 2023 final, is in Friday’s semi-final draw as it bids to end a 69-year wait for a major trophy.

Brentford has lost eight of its past nine away meetings with Newcastle, meanwhile, and offered very little in this latest encounter.
