Arsenal were accused of wasting time and stalling the game. With John Stones and Kyle Walker calling it ‘dark art’ as the Gunners led 2-1.

But Arteta said his side had no choice but to defend deep given City’s numerical advantage, citing a first-half spell. In which Pep Guardiola’s side were forced to play with 10 men following the injury to Rodri Hernandez.

“Well, we have to play the game we have to play, the first 15 minutes we didn’t do that. They (City) played 30 seconds with 10 men, look what they did, it’s normal for them,” Arteta said.

“Unfortunately we are in the same situation. We are in the same situation as with Granit (Xhaka) when we lost 0-5 (in 2021). We learn better. If it continues like this, I will be a very bad person.”

Arsenal and City remain unbeaten so far, the Gunners two points behind the leaders and reigning champions as it stands. Arteta’s side are set to host newly-promoted Leicester City on Saturday when they return to league action. But first face League One’s Bolton Wanderers in the Carabao Cup.
